Translating legal complexity into commercial clarity

1 July 2024, 12:45 - 14:00 BST

With the release of the party manifestos, businesses are asking what the next government’s legislative priorities could mean for them. On Monday 1 July, just three days before the country heads to the polls, join our Government Affairs team and strategic consultants as they discuss the potential impact of the UK general election.

Lord David Blunkett, Lord Gavin Barwell and Lord Andrew Tyrie will share their insights on the results of the upcoming election in conversation with DLA Piper’s Head of UK Government Affairs, Paul Hardy. The panel will look at the key policy priorities for whoever forms the next government, taking a sector-by-sector approach to analyse what the results will mean for businesses across the UK and international firms.

Join us to gain a deeper understanding of the political landscape and the policy priorities that will shape the UK's future. In uncertain times, you need a partner to support you in the face of political and economic shifts. At DLA Piper, we bring the world closer, anticipating what's next to help you navigate change.

Speakers

Lord David Blunkett

Having held multiple senior positions in Tony Blair’s Cabinet, Lord Blunkett’s experience of the last Labour Party in government gives him a unique perspective on their policy agenda under Sir Keir Starmer and the challenges they will seek to overcome in the first few months of government.

Lord Gavin Barwell

Former Downing Street Chief of Staff to Theresa May, Lord Barwell has a deep understanding of the strategic approach needed to successfully navigate the machinery of government. He has experience operating at the highest levels of politics, working in the Conservative Party headquarters from 1993 until his election in 2010.

Lord Andrew Tyrie

Lord Tyrie advised several former Chancellors and is a former Chair of the Treasury Select Committee, Chair of the Competition and Markets Authority, and Chair of the Parliamentary Banking Commission. As a non-affiliated Member of the House of Lords, his policy interests bisect party politics.

Paul Hardy

Paul is a Partner at DLA Piper and Head of UK Government Affairs. He is a former senior civil servant, having spent eight years advising the Houses of Parliament on European Union legislation and the impacts of leaving the EU.
