DLA Piper expands Insurance capabilities with appointment of new Insurance M&A partner

DLA Piper has appointed a new partner in its insurance team. Effective 18 March 2024, Carl Hotton will join the firm’s London office.

Joining from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, Carl focuses on M&A within the insurance sector, and advises numerous leading international insurance market clients on complex and high-profile transactional work. Carl also advises financial institutions and technology clients on M&A and corporate transactional matters. Carl’s appointment continues the development of DLA Piper’s specialist insurance M&A offering to our clients in recent years, as well as supporting the on-going success of the firm’s market-leading full-service insurance practice across Europe.

Benjamin Parameswaran, Global Co-Chair of DLA Piper’s Corporate Group, commented: “Carl joins our growing global Insurance team at an exciting time, as our insurance clients are increasingly focused on M&A transactions. With our global team dedicated to supporting clients in volatile market environments, Carl’s commercial insight and experience will enhance our ability to help our clients navigate complexity and transform their business.”

John Goulios, Global Co-Chair of DLA Piper’s Insurance Sector, added: “Our global insurance team continues to grow in response to our clients’ needs for specialist cross-border transactional advice and support. Carl’s experience in M&A, JVs, restructurings, reorganisations, insurtech and regulatory matters will complement our existing expertise and will further solidify our position as one of the leading insurance sector practices in the UK and internationally.”

Carl’s appointment comes off the back of the recent Pitchbook rankings for Global and European M&A and Private equity, where DLA Piper raked as #1 most active in global M&A, and #1 most active for M&A in Europe.
