DLA Piper Australia promotes two exceptional new partners

DLA Piper Australia is pleased to confirm the promotion of two new partners effective from 1 May 2023.

Clancy King is an employment lawyer who navigates complex and sensitive behavioural and conduct matters for global and domestic clients, particularly in the technology and financial services sectors. Clancy is a key contributor to the firm’s ESG’s activities in Australia and internationally, and demonstrates the firm’s commitment, and expertise in, servicing clients on ESG related issues.

“Given our multi-jurisdictional capabilities, and the depth of our sector experience, we’re uniquely placed to assist global clients on employment matters. As partner I’ll be focused on extending these capabilities even further," said Clancy.

Alexander Samson has extensive experience in private mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, capital raisings and international investments into Australia, with a particular focus on the energy and natural resources (ENR) sector. Alexander co-leads the firm’s global Battery Minerals and Rare Earths Supply Chain working group, a key focus of DLA Piper’s ENR Sector.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to support our clients, particularly here in Queensland, where there is so much growth potential in the ENR sector. Areas such as battery metals, and energy transition, will present many opportunities for growth and diversification in the years ahead,” Alexander said. Alexander grows the Corporate practice in Australia to 20 partners, and bolsters our capability in mergers & acquisitions, where DLA Piper holds the #1 Mergermarket ranking for advising on the highest number of M&A transactions globally for the 13th year running.

Both Clancy and Alexander have been long-serving employees of the firm, and their appointments demonstrate the firm’s focus on nurturing internal talent and the opportunities that exist for promotion to the partnership. The appointments were part of a global round of promotions, which included 72 lawyers being promoted to its partnership. Promotions have been made across all of the firm's practice areas, spanning 38 offices in 21 countries. Globally, Corporate saw the largest intake of new partners with 18 promotions, followed by Litigation and Regulatory with 12 promotions.

These latest promotions in Australia follow the recent appointment of energy and projects partner, Jack Brumpton in February 2023 and The Hon. John Middleton KC as a senior adviser in March 2023.
