About

Antonio Tomassini is Partner of the Tax department, chairman of the firm's client committee, Phd and adjunct Professor in Tax law. He specializes in international taxation, tax litigation (handling matters ranging from assistance during tax audits to legal defense before higher courts), wealth planning and criminal tax law. Before joining DLA Piper he was of counsel for a leading international law firm and before that he served as an officer in the Guardia di Finanza, always dealing with tax and criminal-tax issues. He is member of the scientific committee at Corriere Tributario and of the professional board of Wolters Kluwer. He is also chairman of the Board of the Statutory Auditors and Odv at BMW and Alphabet Italy.

Author of publications and articles for the main national newspapers and for the most prestigious Italian and international editors. Among his most recent works, in 2022 he published the book “Cripto currencies, NFT e Metaverse”. Direct, indirect and inheritance taxation", for Giuffré FL, while in 2023, again for Giuffré FL, he was curator of the book "Tax Reform".

He is the scientific coordinator of the master's program in Artificial Intelligence, crypto-assets and metaverse and of the Tax Forum One, both edited by Wolters Kluwer.

EXPERIENCE

He has assisted large multinationals in some of the biggest tax litigation cases in recent years. Among these, the judgment before the Constitutional Court that led to the landmark decision that stopped, in M&A deals, the disputes for the purposes of registration tax based either on the abuse of the right principle or on a certain interpretation of art. 20 of the Consolidated Registration Tax Act.
