Sam Tyner-Monroe, Ph.D., is DLA Piper's Managing Director of Responsible AI. In this role, she leverages artificial intelligence and data analytics to ensure accountability and transparency in AI systems. With several years of experience working at the intersection of data, law, and policy, Dr. Tyner-Monroe is skilled at turning data into insights, using algorithms responsibly, and communicating complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences. She focuses on ensuring AI and data-driven technologies are developed and applied ethically and for the benefit of society.

EXPERIENCE

A statistician by training, Dr. Tyner-Monroe holds a Ph.D. in Statistics from Iowa State University. After earning her doctorate, she served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Statistics and Applications in Forensic Evidence, where she concentrated on applying advanced statistical methods to improve the reliability and validity of forensic evidence. Following her work in academia, Sam served as an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. This prestigious fellowship allowed her to bridge the gap between academia and government, contributing her statistical expertise to inform evidence-based policymaking. With her diverse background, Sam continues to drive innovation, champion accountability, and advance the responsible use of AI in today's ever-evolving technological landscape.
