Caryn Smith routinely advises foreign and US multinationals with respect to domestic and cross-border transactions across a range of industries. She concentrates her practice in international tax with a focus on operational structuring, global transfer pricing strategy and documentation, post-acquisition integration, IP migrations and cash repatriation.

Caryn has assisted a wide range of clients, from startups to multibillion-dollar multinationals, in structuring acquisitions, cross-border financing, integrating legal entities and ensuring that the final international structure can efficiently meet both US and foreign compliance requirements. She has advised on large-scale international merger and acquisition transactions.

Caryn frequently serves as the managing international legal counsel for multijurisdictional and multi-disciplined projects involving regulatory, employment, IP, corporate formation, corporate governance, foreign exchange controls, transaction taxes such as VAT and GST, and import duties, among others. She has served as the chair of numerous projects some involving hundreds of jurisdictions and multiple advisor teams, where efficiency and teamwork is particularly critical to the overall success of the project.

She also is Editor of DLA Piper's Global Tax News publication.

Awards

Caryn earned the Florida Bar Tax Section's "Chair's Special Merit Award" in recognition of her service to the Florida Bar Tax Section as a primary drafter of an Amicus Curiae brief filed before the US Supreme Court.
