Irma Isabel De Obaldía's ("Isabel") practice focuses in Intellectual Property and Technology.

Isabel's practice includes representation of public and private companies in the software, technology, cloud computing, e-commerce, social networking, mobile applications, hardware, and networking industries. She routinely assists ventured backed, emerging growth and public companies in the strategic management and international exploitation of their intellectual property assets and complex cross border transactions.

A significant component of Isabel’s practice includes advising clients on open source and artificial intelligence business models and navigating compliance issues arising during development and implementation. She has substantial experience in representing both customers and service providers in cloud computing and software as a service transactions. She has extensive experience advising clients in developing strategies to incorporate and leverage AI in their product development and business models, as well as mitigating risks and navigating governance issues to ensure the responsible use of AI.

Isabel also has significant experience assisting clients in the intellectual property aspects of buy-side and sell-side M&A transactions, spin-ins and spin-outs and carve-outs

Prior Experience

Before going into private practice, Isabel was Director of License Management Services for Oracle Corp., Latin America Division, and afterwards, Area Manager for Named Accounts, Oracle Direct Latin America.

Prior to joining Oracle, she worked as an International Trade Negotiator for the Panamanian government, representing Panama during negotiations with the World Trade Organization in Geneva, the United States Trade Representative and in negotiations for bilateral trade agreements with Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Central America.

Earlier in her career, she worked in Spain and England.
