About

Marnie Calli advises developers, sponsors government authorities and contractors on energy and infrastructure projects in the Asia Pacific region, and has particular interest in renewable energy and resource recovery projects.

Marnie has also undertaken a secondment for the Government of the Republic of Vanuatu to advise on a range of development and reconstruction projects in Vanuatu and project manage pro bono legal services provided by DLA Piper. In 2018 and 2019, Marnie facilitated the Contract Drafting Workshop at the University of the South Pacific.

Marnie is the International Co-Lead for Iris (DLA Piper’s LGBTI+ network), a member of the Australian D&I Committee and is part of DLA Piper’s Sustainability and ESG Special Interest Group.

EXPERIENCE

Marnie's key experience includes advising:

  • Solar United Network on the asset sale and subsequent financing of Merredin 100 MW Solar Farm in Western Australia, including negotiation of a warranty and performance deed and operations and maintenance agreement, novation of other project agreements and warranties and undertaking buyer due diligence and financier due diligence on the full suite of project agreements.
  • Asian Development Bank and Electricidade de Timor-Leste on preparation, structuring and procurement of a utility scale photovoltaic solar power plant of up to 100 MW, battery energy storage system and supporting infrastructure in Timor-Leste, including drafting the power purchase agreement and project due diligence.
  • BE Power on the project development of the Big-T Pumped Hydro and Battery Project near Toowoomba, Queensland, including preparing and negotiating early contractor involvement agreement, EPC contract, offtake arrangements and loan agreements. Big-T will consist of a pumped hydro energy storage facility with capacity of 400MW, 10 hours and a battery energy storage facility with capacity of 200MW, one hour – enough to power 288,000 homes with renewable energy.
  • Hydrostor and Energy Estate on all aspects of the project development of the Silver City Energy Storage Centre in Broken Hill, a 200 MW utility-scale advanced compressed air energy storage (A-CAES) facility, including preparing and negotiating early contractor involvement agreements, EPC contracts, offtake arrangements, network support agreement with TransGrid and advising on a LTESA application with the New South Wales Government.
  • 2020 - 2021: BNP Paribas, DBS Bank and ING Bank N.V on project due diligence, ancillary finance documents, and post-completion matters, for Vena Energy’s Wandoan Battery Energy Storage Solution, the first standalone, commercially viable battery project in Australia to reach financial close without the need for State or Federal Government assistance.
  • Engie on the Yuri Renewable Hydrogen to Ammonia Project in Karratha, Western Australia, including drafting a hydrogen purchase agreement, negotiation of the ARENA funding agreement, advising on an EPC contract and undertaking project due diligence. The pilot project involves a first of a kind deployment in Australia of a 10 MW electrolyser powered by 18 MW of solar PV and supported by an 8 MW battery energy storage system, to generate renewable hydrogen to produce renewable ammonia at Yara Pilbara Fertilisers’ neighbouring liquid ammonia plant.
