Dr. Pamela Bechtel Hwang's practice focuses on strategic intellectual property counselling, IP portfolio development/management, strategic patent prosecution and IP due diligence for a variety of life science transactions, including venture financings, public offerings, M&A deals and licensing opportunities. Dr. Hwang has technical expertise in molecular biology, immunology, cell biology, biochemistry, regenerative medicine, stem cell technology, immuno-oncology, diagnostics, large and small molecule therapeutics, cell-based therapeutics, gene therapy, CAR-T therapeutics, gene editing technologies, and drug delivery systems.

Dr. Hwang also has experience as an in-house attorney in a biotechnology company prior to joining DLA Piper which provides a unique perspective to her practice.

Prior Experience

Before joining DLA Piper, Dr. Hwang worked at Biogen Idec, Inc. for seven years as a patent agent and patent attorney. She also worked at Biogen Idec for two years as a scientist in the Molecular Oncology department. Prior to working at Biogen Idec, Dr. Hwang worked for two years at Motorola Life Sciences in the Protein Microarray group.
