European elections 2024: Potential implications for US and cross-border businesses

Webinar

Thursday, July 18, 2024

2024 is shaping up to be a year of political change across Europe.

The European Parliament elections saw far-right parties make gains, although centrist parties will retain their parliamentary majority. The surprise French elections have resulted in further far-right advances and may force President Emmanuel Macron to cohabit with his political rivals, with wide implications for European Union policies. In London, the general election on July 4 seems set to produce a substantial majority for the Labour Party after 14 years of conservative rule. This set of elections has the potential to significantly impact the climate for transatlantic business.

DLA Piper's Government Relations team has assembled a high-level panel to help US businesses with cross-border operations unravel the implications of these political developments.

This program focused on the European elections, including:

  1. Current economic outlook in the UK and EU
  2. Impact of the EU, UK, and French elections on that outlook and on the sectors in which US businesses are active
  3. Impact of political changes on the commercial regulatory environment, including on US businesses already operating in the UK and EU or considering investing there
  4. How UK-EU relations, international trade, and the geopolitical environment may change.
