Thanos advises institutional real estate investment advisors, REITs, investment funds and developers on all aspects of commercial real estate transactions across the United States. Thanos regularly works on property acquisition, development and financing transactions for single properties and large portfolios, and he has a particular focus on joint ventures and complex financing structures. Thanos' clients invest in, develop and finance properties in a variety of asset classes, including multi-family, industrial/logistics, retail, office, lab/life science and senior living properties.

EXPERIENCE

Examples of Thanos' experience include:

  • Represented a non-US investor in the US$2.1 billion acquisition of a portfolio of office buildings and the related joint venture and financings
  • Represented an institutional logistics investment fund in over US$6 billion of permanent financing, portfolio loans, construction loans and unsecured credit facilities for industrial, logistics and warehouse properties across the United States and in Europe and Australia
  • Represented an institutional investment advisor in joint ventures for development projects and existing assets across the United States and in the acquisition of over US$2 billion of multifamily residential, retail and office properties
  • Represented a non-U.S. investor in over US$1.5 billion of joint ventures and acquisitions of office and life science projects in New York, Boston and Washington DC and associated acquisition financing
  • Represented an institutional investment advisor in a multi-tier joint venture structure for the acquisition, development, condominium structuring and financing of a combined senior living and hotel project
  • Represented an institutional investment adviser in obtaining a US$584 million loan from two large life insurance companies secured by 16 outdoor-grocery anchored shopping centers
  • Represented Union Square Station Associates LLC in the development of an approximately US$1.5 billion mixed use transit-oriented development of 2.4 million square feet in Union Square in Somerville, Massachusetts, including a platform joint venture with Affinius Capital (formerly USAA Real Estate)
  • Represented a national real estate developer as the borrower in a US$360 million ground leasehold financing of a lab/life science building
  • Represented US$9 billion pension-held REIT in joint ventures, acquisitions and financings of office, multifamily residential, retail, self-storage, student housing and data center properties across the United States
  • Represented a life-science and healthcare REIT in obtaining a US$275 million construction loan from a syndicate of lenders to construct a multi-building university lab, office and research project
