Episode 6: Data privacy and cyber security - crisis management

Interconnectivity is an inevitable and often welcome result of advancements in technology. However, interconnectivity inherently carries safety and privacy issues. This episode looks at the importance of implementing safeguards, the obligations of corporate organisations in relation to data protection and cybersecurity, and what the consequences are if these obligations are not met. We discuss how the laws vary across the globe, and in particular focusing in on the UK and the US. When an incident occurs, a cascade of actions should be triggered in order to meet your regulators requirements – we talk you through what these steps are. Tune in to hear what kinds of policies you should have in place before an incident occurs, to minimise your liability.

In this episode our host Patrick Rappo (Global Co-Chair of DLA Piper’s Compliance and Investigations Group) speaks to David Cook, cyber security and data protection lawyer at DLA Piper in Manchester, and Justine Phillips whose practice focuses on cyber security. Justine is a Partner in our San Diego office.
