Margarita Mercado-Echegaray joins DLA Piper's Litigation and Regulatory practice in San Juan

DLA Piper announced today that Margarita Mercado-Echegaray has joined the firm’s Litigation and Regulatory practice as a partner in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

From 2013 to 2016, Mercado-Echegaray served as solicitor general for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, a role in which she litigated prominent cases before the Puerto Rico Supreme Court and the US Federal Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Following her tenure as solicitor general, Mercado-Echegaray was a solo practitioner handling civil litigation before the Commonwealth courts, the US District Court for the District of Puerto Rico and the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, as well as administrative agencies.

“Margarita brings an incredible track record as the youngest solicitor general in the history of Puerto Rico, and she has extensive experience at the trial and appellate levels in both state and federal court that will be a significant asset to our team,” said James Brogan, US chair and global co-chair of DLA Piper’s Litigation and Regulatory practice.

Mercado-Echegaray received her J.D. from the University of Puerto Rico Law School, her LL.M. from Columbia Law School and her B.A. from the University of Puerto Rico.
