Rita Tavares de Pina is a Managing Director in DLA Piper's tax and transfer pricing practice in New York City. She focuses her practice on transfer pricing issues, including managing transfer pricing restructuring and planning studies for large multinationals based in the United States, Europe, Latin America and Asia. Representative industries include financial services, entertainment and media, telecommunications, and technology.
Rita has extensive experience in representing businesses in connection with Advance Pricing Agreements, Competent Authority procedures and audit matters, including defending profit splits in global dealing transactions in front of the IRS and negotiating APAs for global banking operations. Rita’s practice also focuses on emerging markets, such as India, China, and Brazil.
Rita is an Attorney admitted to the bar in Europe with a background in tax and economics. Rita earned her LL.M. in Tax from King’s College, University of London, her Postgraduate Studies in Business and Taxation from the High Institute of Financial and Fiscal Studies in Lisbon, and her J.D. from the University of Lisbon Law School.
Rita previously taught graduate tax programs at the University of Oporto Law School, Portugal, and at Baruch College, The City University of New York. Rita is a writer for the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation based in Amsterdam, has published widely on tax and transfer pricing topics, and is a frequent speaker at tax seminars.
