About

Nikolas is a seasoned commercial litigator who also leads the Montreal office’s Real Estate Group. In addition to his extensive experience navigating the complexities of commercial disputes, his practice also focuses on high-value conflicts in expropriation, development and infrastructure, municipal taxation, environmental regulation, commercial leasing, regulatory and administrative issues, and municipal law. Nikolas has distinguished himself as an astute litigator, having pleaded before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Quebec Court of Appeal and trial courts and tribunals, including the Tribunal administratif du Québec.

Nikolas has been recognized by Lexpert for his expertise in the areas of corporate commercial litigation and infrastructure and by Best Lawyers in Canada in the areas of real estate, litigation, expropriation and municipal law.

A leader in the field of expropriation law in Quebec, Nikolas appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada in Lorraine (Ville) c. 2646-8926 Québec Inc. He initiated and chairs the conferences of the Québec ‎Bar in expropriation law and was recognized as a lawyer specializing in expropriation law before the ‎Commission permanente des finances publiques of the National Assembly of Quebec. Nikolas regularly speaks at ‎industry and client seminars on expropriation matters, has published numerous articles on the subject and ‎has been cited by the Quebec Court of Appeal.‎

Nikolas also provides strategic advice in commercial real estate transactions in various asset classes. Clients value his pragmatic approach to risk management, particularly in complex transactions that include brownfields liability. He frequently advises both small and large ‎companies in all their construction law matters, particularly concerning dispute resolutions.‎

Nikolas is a prominent lecturer, having lectured for the Quebec Bar, Thomson Reuters, Yvon Blais, Project Management Institute (PMI), International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and Open Forum, in addition to giving internal firm seminars.

  • Aldo Construction in the acquisition of land in Valleyfield for the development of over 1,000 housing units.

  • Metro/Jean Coutu in an expropriation matter in relation to the extension of the blue line near Boulevard shopping center.
  • Aldo Construction in a $66.3 million settlement after 30 days of trial against the City of Laval in the largest claim filed against the city in its history.
  • American Brands S.A. as part of a claim for reimbursement of the sale price and damages for latent defects affecting a system for filling and capping bottles of bleach.
