DLA Piper continues to strengthen Singapore office with two partner promotions
DLA Piper has announced two internal partner promotions in its Singapore office as part of a global round of promotions, which saw 63 lawyers being promoted to its partnership. Promotions have been made across all of the firm's practice areas, spanning 37 offices in 18 countries, and are effective from 1 May 2024.
David Smail has been promoted to partner in the Employment practice. David leads the Singapore office’s employment team and works with multinational employers to solve complex HR and employee relations issues, as well as managing their overall employment legal risk. His practice spans the entire employment life cycle from hiring to firing (and beyond). Having practised in Asia for more than a decade, David has a strong understanding of the regional issues around the Asia Pacific region with a focus on South and Southeast Asia. David has been with DLA Piper for several years, having joined the Hong Kong office before relocating to Singapore.
Jared Green leads the Singapore office’s Restructuring team. He has experience in all aspects of non-contentious restructuring and insolvency assignments, and acts for a number of stakeholders including lenders, funds, corporates, professional advisers and officeholders in respect of regional and international restructuring and distressed and leveraged finance transactions and special situations. Jared has been with the firm since joining as a trainee and was based in the London office prior to relocating to Singapore.
Commenting on the promotions, Satpal Gobindpuri, Regional Managing Partner, Asia, said “Both David and Jared are incredibly focused and talented lawyers within their respective practice areas. These promotions reflect their dedication to the firm and their appointments demonstrate the firm’s focus on nurturing internal talent and our continuing commitment to Asia. I am delighted to welcome them to the partnership.”
The addition of two new partners in key practice areas further strengthens DLA Piper’s Singapore office and by extension its strategic focus on Southeast Asia. David and Jared’s promotions bring the total number of partners in Singapore to 13, following recent appointments including Ciaran Londra (Real Estate) and Barbara Voskamp (Tax). Matthias Schemuth (Banking & Finance) also relocated to Singapore earlier this year.
