Law Society of Hong Kong gives pro bono award to DLA Piper
DLA Piper has been recognized in The Law Society of Hong Kong’s 2022 Pro Bono and Community Work Recognition Programme for its role in supporting local communities.
The firm won the Silver Law Firm Award for its outstanding commitment to volunteer pro bono and community work. In addition, DLA Piper lawyers were also presented individual awards including two gold, five silver and eight bronze. Aaron Chan, pro bono associate, once again received the Young Lawyer Special Award for the highest number of pro bono hours (between 1 July 2021 – 30 June 2022) and having no more than five years of post-qualified experience.
This recognition demonstrates the firm’s ongoing commitment to pro bono and, in particular, the firm’s Hong Kong office. From July 2021 to June 2022, the office provided over 2,700 hours of pro bono work. This work includes providing ongoing support to the DLA Piper-RainLily Legal Clinic, which was set up in partnership with the Association Concerning Sexual Violence Against Women and supports women who have been subjected to sexual violence or sexual harassment in accessing compensation. The Hong Kong office has also contributed around 270 hours of pro bono services for the asylum seekers/refugee community in Hong Kong. Environmental protection and climate change are emerging focus areas for the pro bono practice in Hong Kong.
In 2023, the Hong Kong office will work together with DLA Piper lawyers around the world to protect the rights of displaced people, women and LGBT+ people. We will also continue to drive sustainable development worldwide.
