Rachel Hamilton and Sharilyn Nagina appointed Queen’s Counsel in Alberta

Congratulations to Rachel Hamilton and Sharilyn Nagina who received the important designation of Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) in Alberta in 2022.

The Q.C. designation is conferred on members of the legal profession to recognize their distinguished legal service and expertise in a particular area of law. The successful candidates will also demonstrate professional integrity, good character, and a superior contribution to the life of the community.

Rachel Hamilton practises in the area of corporate/commercial law with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, complex commercial matters and disputes, construction matters, commercial real estate and pensions and benefit law. She is a past Co-Chair for the Alberta Branch of the Canadian Bar Association’s Pension & Benefits Subsection. ‎Rachel has been recognized by leading lawyer ranking guides, including Best Lawyers and The Legal 500 and in 2010 was named a Lexpert Rising Star Leading Lawyer Under 40. From 2013 to 2020, Rachel was Managing Partner of the firm's Edmonton Office. ‎

Sharilyn Nagina ‎has successfully represented and advised clients in the oil and gas and energy industries on litigation, regulatory, and administrative matters and has been involved with issues of First Nations’ rights to participate in proceedings related to oil and gas development. In 2018, Sharilyn was appointed by the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry to the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act Appeal Tribunal and has served as its Chair since 2020. She has also been deeply involved with Women In Law Leadership (WILL) in Alberta, occupying various roles within the organization, including her current position as Board Member. Sharilyn is a past member of DLA Piper Canada’s National Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee.
