DLA Piper advises IHG Hotels & Resorts on exit from the InterContinental Düsseldorf hotel

DLA Piper has advised the international hotel group IHG Hotels & Resorts on the amicable termination of its lease with the owner of the premium property Königsallee 59/59a in Düsseldorf and the disposal of the respective hotel operations.

So far IHG Hotels & Resorts had operated the “InterContinental Hotel Düsseldorf” at this property. Since 1 February 2022, HON Hospitality Düsseldorf GmbH, a company of the HONESTIS Group, will take the first hotel under its management with a "white label strategy" as "Hotel Kö59 - a hotel of the HOMMAGE Luxury Hotels Collection". The employees will be taken over by the new operator.

The five-star superior hotel on the Königsallee was modernized in the past three years during ongoing operations. It offers its guests 287 rooms and various suites. The two conference levels also offer 14 event rooms for up to 400 guests and the largest ballroom in Düsseldorf city centre - with around 750 m² for up to 650 people.

HONESTIS AG was founded in 2016. The company group includes "DHI Dorint Hospitality & Innovation GmbH" with currently 63 hotels under the brands "Dorint Hotels & Resorts", "HOMMAGE Luxury Hotels Collection" and "Essential by Dorint".

IHG Hotels & Resorts, headquartered in London, is one of the world's leading hotel companies with more than 6,000 hotels and around 350,000 employees in more than 100 countries. In addition to InterContinental, the IHG Hotels & Resorts portfolio also includes brands such as Regent, Six Senses and Crowne Plaza.

The DLA Piper team was led jointly by partner Dr. Martin Haller (Real Estate), counsel Dr Christoph Dachner (Corporate/M&A) and senior associate Markus Kotowski (Real Estate, all Munich). The team also included partners Gerald Schumann (Corporate/M&A), Pascal Kremp (Labour Law, both Munich), Dr Björn Enders (Tax, Frankfurt), Dr Frank Roth (Litigation, Cologne), Counsel Sebastian Kost (Tax), Senior Associate Dr Felisa Frey (Labour Law, both Munich), Associates Rainer Hartmann (Tax, Frankfurt) and Sophie Theres Schneider (Litigation, Cologne).

In-house at IHG Hotels & Resorts, Simge Kocabayoglu (Senior Legal Counsel Europe) advised on this transaction.
