The outbreak of war in Ukraine and the increase in the costs of construction investments in Poland

The report includes information on the state of the economy, including the construction sector, as of the end of February 2023. We also provide a technical analysis with commentary on observed price changes in, among other things, the costs of fuel, and raw materials, as well as legal commentary that discusses action that may be taken by contractors and subcontractors to adapt contracts to the current realities of ongoing investments.
Ripple effects of the war in Ukraine still felt in the construction industry
- 88% of construction companies in Poland report still feeling the effects of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, according to our study of the industry's largest companies.
- A general increase in the cost of carrying out investments is indicated by 84% of companies, with 78% citing primarily the increase in the price of construction materials. Half of the companies estimate the cost increase at 10-20%, and a third say it has exceeded 20%.
- Disruptions in supply chains have resulted in delays in material deliveries or the inability to purchase materials, highlighted by 48% and 40% of respondents, respectively. One in three companies reported an exodus of skilled workers.
