Climate adaptation and mitigation: an interview with Feike Sijbesma, Co-Chair of the Global Center on Adaptation

As the Global Commission on Adaptation noted, “Climate change is one of the greatest threats facing humanity, with far-reaching and devastating impacts on people, the environment, and the economy. Climate impacts affect all regions of the world and cut across all sectors of society.” What is more, global action to slow climate change remains promising but insufficient.

Against this backdrop, the leaders meeting at the Climate Adaptation Summit 2021 acknowledged that we can do more than simply building back the pre-pandemic world. We must in fact seize the opportunity to achieve a breakthrough on adaptation and resilience, and build forward to a world that is more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive.

Feike Sijbesma, Co-Chair of the Global Center on Adaptation and former CEO of DSM discuss his views with Paul Hopman on climate change, the impact of COVID-19 on climate change, what’s to be expected in the coming period regarding ESG and the role societies can play to mitigate the environmental changes.

Paul Hopman, Country Managing Partner the Netherlands: “Climate change is high on our firm’s agenda. As a firm we have set ambitions targets for ourselves. Investing in our firm, people and processes is a continuous effort in reaching our goal of becoming a net zero carbon footprint law firm.”
