DLA Piper wins in Financial Times Asia Pacific Innovative Lawyers Awards 2021

Global law firm DLA Piper has won in the Financial Times Asia Pacific Innovative Lawyers Awards 2021.

The firm was named as the winning law firm in the “Moving the market forward” category for its work on TOKO, a unique digital asset creation platform that was developed in collaboration with Aldersgate DLS (Digital Ledger Solutions). Through TOKO, DLA Piper provides clients with a platform to create unique product offerings and improve asset liquidity, coupled with the required legal knowledge to navigate the regulatory complexities of tokenisation.

“This is a fantastic achievement for the firm. Innovation is core to our firm's culture and this success reinforces our commitment to embrace change and fundamentally enhance how we do business and service our clients”, said Simon Levine, Global Co-CEO at DLA Piper and Chair of the Change Council, which spearheads an agenda of radical change across the International firm.

The Financial Times Asia Pacific Innovative Lawyers Awards recognises lawyers, law firms and in-house legal teams in the Asia Pacific region that are at the forefront of innovation, and this year’s awards drew on thousands of submissions.

Scott Thiel, Technology Partner and lead lawyer for TOKO commented “I am incredibly proud of this achievement. Having our work recognised by the Financial Times is a tremendous endorsement. It affirms the ingenuity of our project team which has dedicated years to researching the asset tokenisation technology challenge and legal issues surrounding regulated digital assets. Our collaboration with technology partners and consultants Luther Systems and BCW Group enabled us to successfully bring TOKO to market”.
