DLA Piper advises Hyundai Movex in Australian first

Global law firm DLA Piper was pleased to advise South Korean firm Hyundai Movex on its engagement by Sydney Metro.

“We were delighted to advise Hyundai Movex on its first project here in Australia,” said Jonathan Stafford, Partner, DLA Piper.

Sydney Metro has awarded a $41 million contract to Hyundai Movex for the design, supply and installation of 150 mechanical gap fillers, a new technology which mechanically fill the gap between train and station platforms, and 360 platform screen doors, on stations between Marrickville and Bankstown on the T3 Bankstown Line, which is currently being converted to Sydney Metro’s standards as part of the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project.

The improvements will ensure easy and safe access for customers. This technology will keep people and objects safe.

“This cutting-edge technology, which is a first of its kind in Australia, will be used to upgrade stations on the Bankstown line to meet metro standards,” Jonathan said.

Hyundai Movex will collaborate with its partners in Australia, including Ricardo Rail, to deliver the mechanical gap fillers and platform screen doors this year.

DLA Piper's team was led by Jonathan Stafford (Partner, Finance, Projects & Restructuring) who was assisted by Eric Young Jin (Solicitor, Finance, Projects & Restructuring).

“Hyundai Movex’s engagement is testament to its capabilities and is an important step towards improved accessibility for commuters,” Jonathan said.
