DLA Piper in Poland expands its finance team
Global law firm, DLA Piper announces the appointment of Katarzyna Jakubiak as a partner in the firm's international Finance group, effective 1 December 2024.
Joining from Deloitte Legal, Katarzyna is a highly respected lawyer with over 16 years of experience advising financial institutions, private equity funds and corporate entities. She focuses on financing transactions across a range of sectors and transaction backgrounds, including bilateral and syndicated loans, project finance, structured finance, acquisition finance and corporate finance, as well as margin lending and PTO finance.
Alongside, Anna Tomaszewska will join the team as senior associate. Anna will strengthen the finance team with transactional collateral, project finance and corporate advisory knowledge. She focuses on preparing, reviewing and negotiating full transaction collateral documentation, which includes pledge agreements, security transfers, subordination and mortgage statements.
The expansion of the finance practice is a response to the growing needs of the firm’s clients, who are looking not only for legal support but also for a strategic partner in anticipating and managing risk in volatile markets. Their appointments follow that of Jan Styliński as of counsel in Poland, further underlining the law firm’s strategic investment in developing expertise in the financial sector.
Jacek Giziński, Co-Country Managing Partner, DLA Piper Poland commented: “Katarzyna and Anna’s experience in wide-ranging finance transactions, combined with Jan Styliński's track record in complex infrastructure projects and strategic advice on PPP projects, contracting and partner selection for large investments, form a strong base to further strengthen DLA Piper’s position as a leader in financial law, offering clients not only legal but also strategic advice. On behalf of the entire DLA Piper team, we would like to warmly welcome Katarzyna and Anna to our ranks. We wish them much success, inspiring projects and successful collaboration.”
Colin Wilson, International Co-Chair of DLA Piper’s Finance practice added: “We are seeing increased demand from clients looking to CEE markets. With Katarzyna and Anna's appointment, we are gaining two highly experienced lawyers which will greatly benefit a wide range of stakeholders across a range of sectors, along with our wider teams across the firm's International business.”
Mariusz Hyla, Head of Finance, Poland continued: “Katarzyna’s experience in project finance, sustainable finance or leveraged buyouts ideally complements our expertise, allowing us to offer clients even broader support in the most demanding projects. Together with Anna, they will bring not only an impressive track record in executing complex financial transactions, but also unique market knowledge to build lasting relations with clients.”
Katarzyna Jakubiak concluded: “In my practice so far, I have had the opportunity to manage complex financial transactions, such as the financing of the development of the DCT Gdańsk container terminal or the Polimery Police project, which were pioneering ventures on the Polish market. Experience gained there cemented my knowledge of the key aspects of project and structured finance. At DLA Piper, it will be my goal to develop innovative financial solutions that not only address our clients‘ current needs, but also contribute to their long-term success in an increasingly sustainable and regulated financial world.”
