About

James Watson is an Associate in the debt finance group at DLA Piper.

He routinely advises domestic and international financial institutions, alternative credit providers, loan agencies, private equity sponsors and corporate borrowers on complex domestic and multi-jurisdictional transactions.

James has particular experience advising on sponsor-backed financings, venture and growth lending, investment and development financings, and corporate treasury facilities.

Whilst training at DLA Piper, James spent six months on secondment with Goldman Sachs International.

  • Advised leading non-bank lender Hercules Capital, Inc. on its USD55m venture debt financing of the Carwow group, an innovative online automotive marketplace.
  • Advising LDC, a private equity investor and part of Lloyds Banking Group, on its investment in Sedex, a market-leading sustainability data and technology provider.
  • Advising a market-leading loan agency in connection with multiple sponsor-backed real estate investment financings.

James is also supports with and is passionate about DLA Piper’s various socioeconomic mobility initiatives.

Between 2021 and 2022 James was part of the City of London Corporation’s Future Leaders Programme.  The taskforce was mandated with advising the Lord Mayor of London on social mobility issues affecting those entering the financial, professional services and technology sectors.
