Nils Vanhassel is a Belgian tax lawyer and a member of the Brussels bar. He is a Senior Associate within the Middle East tax team at DLA Piper.
Nils has been working in the Middle East since 2017. Since coming to the Gulf region, Nils has gained extensive experience with taxation in the GCC, advising both multinational and local companies as well as (quasi-)government entities on complex tax matters.
Nils is an all-round tax advisor who advises clients on International Taxation, Corporate Income Tax, Withholding Tax, Indirect Tax (VAT, customs, excise tax), and Transfer Pricing. He specializes in tax structuring, M&A transactions, tax due diligence, inbound investment and market entry in the GCC. Nils also has special expertise in dealing with tax disputes and tax controversy in the Gulf region.
Nils combines strong technical capabilities with a pragmatic and solution-oriented approach. He regularly gives presentations on various tax topics and is a frequent author of articles on taxation in the EU and GCC. Nils also co-authored several reference works on tax. During his career, Nils has worked for clients in a variety of sectors, which contributed to his excellent business acumen.
