Giulia Vallar is a litigation and arbitration lawyer, who mainly deals with complex cross-border matters, thereby including succession issues. She has an over eleven years’ experience, gained in the Academia, at the Secretariat of the ICC International Court of Arbitration and in DLA Piper. She has a deep knowledge of private international law, international commercial arbitration and public international law, topics on which she regularly speaks at conferences and publishes scientific contributions.

Giulia holds a J.D. summa cum laude from the University of Milan, an LL.M. in International Legal Studies from NYU School of Law and a Ph.D. in International Law from the University of Milan, where she has also been Assistant Professor and Research Fellow in Private International Law. She received the “abilitazione” as Associate Professor in International Law in May 2021.

In the past, Giulia also studied at the Hague Academy of International Law, at the Max-Planck-Institut für ausländisches und internationales Privatrecht, in Hamburg, Germany, and at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. She is a member of the Italian Society of International Law (SIDI-ISIL), of the European Association of Private International Law (EAPIL) and of of the YAN INSOL Europe Academic Forum.

EXPERIENCE

  • Assisted an Italian mechanical engineering company against a Turkish energy company in an arbitration seated in Zurich, administered by the ICC, concerning the failure to perform a supply agreement.
  • Assisted a Dutch sportswear manufacturer in an antitrust litigation against an Italian retailer company before the Court of First Instance of Milan.
  • Assisted a French aircraft company against Italian insurance companies in a multi-jurisdictional litigation involving Italian and UK courts.
  • Assisted an Italian bank in a debt collection proceedings against a Portuguese company.
  • Assisted an Indian company in a post-award litigation in front of the Court of Genoa, Italy, concerning the enforcement of an ICC award rendered in London.
  • Assisted an Italian company in front of the Court of Appeal of Milan in obtaining the annulment of an award rendered under the ICC Rules.
  • Assisted an Italian company in an arbitration seated in Hong Kong, administered by the HKIAC, for the payment of an SPA’s price.
  • Advised a foreign Minister on the opportunity to settle a long lasting litigation proceedings pending before Italian Courts.
  • Assisted a Swedish company in an Italian litigation proceedings parallel to a Swedish litigation concerning construction contracts.
  • Regularly advises on cross-border succession issues.
  • Regularly advises and assists both Italian and foreign companies in obtaining the enforcement in Italy of foreign judicial decisions and of foreign arbitral awards.
  • Regularly advises and assists both Italian and foreign companies in reaching extra-judicial settlements with counterparties.
