Evan Oikawa practices employment law and has considerable experience with trial preparation, legal research, oral advocacy, and alternative dispute resolution. His practice involves various aspects of employment law, including drafting and reviewing contracts, helping organizations navigate legislation and regulations, handling wrongful dismissal claims, and representing clients in litigation.
After graduating from the University of Alberta Faculty of Law, Evan joined the Alberta Public Service where he gained significant courtroom experience representing the government in employment-related cases. In this role, he advocated for clients facing difficult and vulnerable situations, and successfully mediated dozens of employer-employee disputes. He also acted for the government in negotiations with large employer associations relating to policy and regulation, and served in mentorship and leadership roles.
During law school, Evan helped low income clients as a volunteer with Student Legal Services and also served as an Editor on the Alberta Law Review, one of the top five leading law journals in Canada. He has won several awards for his outstanding work, including the 5-Star Employment Lawyer Award, 2023, Canadian HR Reporter.
