Chris is a Senior Associate in the Litigation and Regulatory group in London.

Chris' practice focuses on a broad mix of commercial disputes, sports law disputes, international arbitration, financial services litigation, and regulatory and internal investigations. He has experience acting in international commercial arbitrations administered under the rules of all major international arbitral institutions, as well as in ad hoc proceedings.

Chris has also spent time on secondment to a leading global investment bank, providing legal support on a broad range of matters within their Litigation and Regulatory Proceedings team.

EXPERIENCE

  • Advising a leading oil and gas company in separate ICC arbitrations against its former joint venture partner and a State in Central Asia in relation to disputes regarding a production sharing agreement.
  • A variety of sports law matters, including advising on sports-related contractual disputes, disciplinary proceedings, and arbitration.
  • Advising a Government's Ministry of Finance in a Commercial Court (Financial List), Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court, dispute regarding another State's failure to repay the principal and interest due under a USD3 billion Eurobond governed by English law, which involved novel issues as to a State's capacity to enter into a contract under English law.
  • Advising an international investment bank in relation to a former client’s claims for alleged breaches of contract and negligence.
  • Acting for a leading commercial real estate company in an ad hoc arbitration against the seller of a real estate business regarding payments due upon the expiry of an escrow agreement, and the settlement of the dispute via mediation.
  • Acting for a leading diamond mining company in an LCIA arbitration seated in London regarding a contractual dispute with a former joint venture partner in a mining operation in West Africa.

Pro Bono

Chris is actively involved in Pro Bono projects and has been previously involved in projects such as:

  • International Death Penalty Project: representing a vulnerable prisoner on death row in Malawi in resentencing proceedings, which resulted in the client’s release from prison. In 2017, The American Lawyer selected the project as its “Global Pro Bono Dispute of the Year”.
  • Representing a prisoner on death row in Tanzania in relation to her appeal to the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and an application for clemency to the President of Tanzania.
