Chris Henry has a construction law practice focused on representing owners, developers, and contractors in transactional and litigation matters regarding the construction and development of major projects.

Chris represents owners and contractors in construction disputes in various forums across the country, including arbitration, mediation, and state and federal litigation matters. He advises clients in disputes involving a wide range of construction projects, including hotel and hospitality, multi-family developments, industrial facilities, and other traditional commercial developments.

He also advises clients in the drafting and negotiation of construction and design agreements and claims counseling and avoidance practices.

EXPERIENCE

  • Advised a California based movie production company in the drafting and negotiation of construction and design contracts related to the construction of a new production facility.
  • Represented a national multi-family real estate developer in multiple disputes with its contractors in Maryland and Virginia state courts arising from the construction of multi-family developments. 
  • Represented a Fortune 50 multinational commercial goods retailer in a dispute with its design engineer in an arbitration forum arising from the construction of a new retail facility.
  • Advised a Canadian based aviation company in the drafting and negotiation of construction and development agreements in relation to the construction of new private hangers, an aviation terminal, and office space.
  • Advised a real estate development firm in the drafting and negotiation of construction agreements for the development of multiple industrial cold storage facilities. 
  • Advised an international designer, manufacturer, and installer of automated vehicle storage and retrieval systems in claims avoidance practices in relation to multiple projects across the United States.
  • Represented a metropolitan transit authority in the preparation of various construction agreements for use across numerous future infrastructure projects.
  • Represented design-build contractor in a dispute with its subcontractor arising from a large-scale infrastructure improvement project.

Prior Experience

Prior to law school, Mr. Henry was a project engineer for a large national general contractor. His responsibilities included the day-to-day field-based operations of multifamily housing developments, pre-construction pricing, bid package assembly, and project due diligence. Before joining DLA Piper, Mr. Henry was an associate at two nationally-recognized construction practice groups.
