About

John Hennenfent joined our DLA Piper Vienna office in July 2022. He is a US-qualified attorney focusing his work on the fields of international trade and EU competition law, as well as other areas of international practice within our Austrian Litigation & Regulatory practice group.

John has advised various large corporates and financial institutions in complex cross-border regulatory issues. This includes transactional compliance for international sanctions, FDI and merger controls across a range of sectors including financial services, technology, energy, and retail.

Prior to joining DLA Piper, he worked for several years as a legislative and policy advisor to industry and senior politicians, notably to Canada’s Leader of the Official Opposition. His public service centered around economic and security policy and issues of public law.

  • Regularly advising clients from a range of sectors on economic sanctions, including general compliance in the framework of their global operations and specific transactional advice.
  • Preparing submissions on international financial sanctions compliance for a major European corporate.
  • Assisted a major European corporate in its investment strategy related to multi-jurisdictional competition law issues.
  • Advise a major multinational in its strategy for a planned EU trade regulation.
  • Assisted one of Europe’s largest financial institutions, an EU-listed company, in preparing its EU and US compliance disclosures.
