Edward is an experienced lawyer in the Intellectual Property and Technology group, with particular expertise advising on procurement, design and implementation of complex IT systems, and Artificial Intelligence across multiple industry sectors.

Edward is a trusted and pragmatic TMT practitioner, providing a holistic approach to meeting clients' technology needs and ensuring clients  (from start-ups to publicly listed multinationals) are provided with a complete solution to the development and execution of their technology transactions, from a legal and commercial perspective. He advises clients on a broad range of information technology related issues, including those relating to IP creation, commercialisation and licencing, business process implementation and outsourcing transactions, cloud computing, ecommerce, cybersecurity and data protection/privacy.

Edward co-heads DLA Piper New Zealand's Start-Up Advisory Group and is a co-director of DLA Piper New Zealand's pro-bono practice.

EXPERIENCE

Edward’s recent experience includes advising:

  • an American multinational corporation and technology company on its New Zealand operations;
  • multiple European car manufacturers on the roll-out of their respective proposed autonomous and/or connected car products in New Zealand; and
  • leading New Zealand insurance company on a business-critical digital transformation project involving the migration of its core insurance IT platform to a cloud solution provided by one of the world's most prominent insurance software providers.
