DLA Piper has been awarded the Distinguished Pro Bono Law Firm Award as part of the Law Society of Hong Kong's Pro Bono and Community Work Recognition Programme. The firm also received the Special Award for the Year, the Improvement Award, and the Gold Law Firm Award.

Since its debut in 2010, the Programme has encouraged law firms and members, including lawyers and trainee solicitors, to engage in pro bono and community work. It also honors those with outstanding commitment to pro bono and community work in the legal profession. The Distinguished Pro Bono Law Firm Award recognizes exceptional contributions by Hong Kong law firms. This year’s Special Award highlights law firms promoting diversity and inclusion through pro bono work.

26 people from DLA Piper's Hong Kong office received individual awards, including Aaron Chan, Pro Bono Associate – Asia, who brought home the Special Award for the Year (Individual).

DLA Piper has a long-standing commitment to pro bono which is strategic pillar in the firm's growth strategy. During the recognition period (1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024), DLA Piper Hong Kong provided over 3,500 hours of pro bono services to civil society organizations and marginalized individuals, supporting sustainable development, safeguarding rights, and promoting access to justice. This year, the firm strengthened its global pro bono partnership with UNHCR and collaborated with RainLily. It also advanced diversity and inclusion, notably through the Iris employee resource group and the Iris Represent initiative, which facilitated direct services to the LGBT+ community and completed key projects promoting LGBT+ rights in Hong Kong.

Aaron Chan, Pro Bono Associate – Asia, DLA Piper said: "The success of our pro bono practice depends on strong partnerships with civil society organizations like RainLily, Hong Kong Marriage Equality, Pro Bono HK, Equal Justice, and Clean Air Network. Together, we develop innovative and practical legal solutions for the Hong Kong community. Our colleagues’ commitment to making a meaningful impact is another cornerstone of our pro bono efforts.

"In 2025, we will continue to focus on climate justice and conservation, protect the rights of vulnerable people, and support good governance and equality. Addressing the root causes and effects of forcible displacement will remain a key priority."
