DLA Piper Canada welcomes Wally Braul

DLA Piper (Canada) LLP is pleased to welcome the highly regarded energy, Indigenous law and environmental ‎lawyer, Wally Braul, as Senior Counsel to our Litigation, Arbitration and Investigations Group. ‎

With over 35 years of experience, Wally is called to the Bar in B.C. and Alberta and has extensive experience with tribunal and judicial proceedings in both provinces with respect to shale gas fracking, water, pipelines, marine terminals, contaminated sites, tailing ponds and public utility matters. Wally has provided strategic advice to senior executives of energy companies on how to respond to recent judicial decisions on Indigenous title and legislation respecting LNG and water. He has also negotiated with Indigenous groups on consultation protocols and impact and benefit agreements in a wide array of natural resource projects and provided opinions on civil, regulatory and quasi-criminal liability on environmental and Indigenous law issues. Wally maintains strong working relationships with federal and provincial regulators and has acted for regulators in ‎litigation matters, as well as law reform.‎

Wally is a frequent commentator on energy-related legal developments, having authored numerous ‎articles and presented at many conferences. He has been repeatedly recognized by leading lawyer ‎guides such as Legal 500, Lexpert, The Best Lawyers in Canada and Who's Who Legal.‎ Prior to joining DLA Piper, Wally was a Partner at an international firm, where he lead their western Canada environmental practice group. ‎
