DLA Piper appoints Richard Harbot as Tax partner in London

DLA Piper has appointed Richard Harbot as a partner in its Tax team in London. He is joining from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP (BCLP) later in the summer.

Richard is a Corporate Tax lawyer with a broad range of experience across a variety of disciplines and sectors but with a particular focus on Corporate Real Estate transactions and advisory work. Since becoming a partner at BCLP in 2011, he has led many significant transactions in the Real Estate sector acting for private equity investors, funds, sovereign wealth funds and property companies.

The UK Tax team works closely on the firm’s transactional work generally, but has a particularly active collaboration with the Real Estate team. Richard’s appointment is a part of the firms strategic drive to build the Tax practice and help it to take full advantage of the many and growing opportunities offered by the size of DLA Piper’s UK presence, in particular working with the 15 Real Estate partners based in London.

Ben Brown, UK Head of Tax at DLA Piper, commented:

“Richard’s sector focus will give a boost to our continued drive in building a leading global Real Estate Funds team and will also allow him to team up with individuals that he has worked with successfully in the past, including recently appointed Real Estate partner Bonnie Calnan, Corporate/Funds partner Jonathan Powling and Real Estate partner James Knox who also recently joined from BCLP.”

Jacques Wantz, International Group Head of the Tax practice at DLA Piper, commented:

“Richard’s joining follows the appointment of London based Jason Collins as Head of our International Tax Disputes practice, who joined us back in the summer from Pinsent Masons. Both appointments reflect our ambitious plans to grow our Tax practice in the UK and will ensure that we continue to provide the highest quality advice to our clients globally.”
