Margarita Mercado-Echegaray joins DLA Piper's Litigation and Regulatory practice in San Juan
DLA Piper announced today that Margarita Mercado-Echegaray has joined the firm’s Litigation and Regulatory practice as a partner in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
From 2013 to 2016, Mercado-Echegaray served as solicitor general for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, a role in which she litigated prominent cases before the Puerto Rico Supreme Court and the US Federal Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. “Margarita brings an incredible track record as the youngest solicitor general in the history of Puerto Rico, and she has extensive experience at the trial and appellate levels in both state and federal court that will be a significant asset to our team,” said James Brogan, US chair and global co-chair of DLA Piper’s Litigation and Regulatory practice.
“Margarita’s addition to the San Juan office will strengthen our offering immensely and allow us to better support clients with significant operations in Puerto Rico,” added Nikos Buxeda, managing partner of DLA Piper's San Juan office. “We are very pleased to welcome her to the firm, as we continue to grow our presence in order to meet increased demand for practitioners with her skillset.”
