DLA Piper’s Kaila Sergent receives 2023 Next Generation Award from Connect CRE

DLA Piper is pleased to announce that Kaila Sergent was recognized by Connect CRE as part of its 2023 Next Generation Awards honoring a select group of young leaders “who will have a strong influence on the commercial real estate industry.”

Sergent, who was named a winner in the Chicago & Midwest award category, represents real estate private equity funds, REITs, developers and other institutional clients in a broad range of commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions and dispositions, leasing, financing and development of a wide variety of asset types. She focuses on both single asset and large portfolio acquisitions and dispositions with purchase prices reaching up to $1 billion, including student housing projects, senior housing projects, hotels, and medical office and life science buildings.

Sergent has extensive experience representing clients on public-private partnership (P3) transactions across the country, including multi-family housing developments and projects involving long-term ground leases with public entities. In her practice, she also negotiates and drafts leases on behalf of landlords and tenants of office, retail, co-working and industrial space in a wide variety of properties, including urban locations, shopping centers, mixed-use developments and condominiums. She frequently counsels her clients on the repositioning of properties, including subletting, assignments, modifications and restructures, early terminations and sales of leaseholds.
