Alice Adu Gyamfi focuses her practice on international commercial and investment arbitration and investigations. She has represented sovereign states, individuals and multinational companies in arbitrations under leading institutional and ad hoc rules such as the ICC, ICSID, AAA/ICDR and UNCITRAL Rules. Her experience includes disputes in the renewable energy, oil & gas, mining, life sciences and construction sectors.

Alice Adu Gyamfi focuses her practice on international commercial and investment arbitration and investigations. She has represented sovereign states, individuals and multinational companies in arbitrations under leading institutional and ad hoc rules such as the ICC, ICSID, AAA/ICDR and UNCITRAL Rules. Her experience includes disputes in the renewable energy, oil & gas, mining, life sciences and construction sectors.

Ms. Gyamfi is regularly engaged in complex cross border disputes. She enforces arbitral awards and foreign judgments in US courts and facilitates asset recovery missions for sovereign and non-sovereign creditors. She is also adept in matters involving foreign immunity of both sovereigns and their government officials.

Ms. Gyamfi is also a dedicated pro bono advocate. For the past five years, she has been advising the South Sudan Ministry of Justice on establishing a Commission on Truth, Reconciliation, and Healing. In 2023, she drafted the implementing legislation for the Commission and the Compensation and Reparations Authority Bill, both of which were passed by Parliament in 2024.

  • Representing a U.S. energy giant against a multi-national electric utility company, in an ICC arbitration related to the maintenance of a natural gas turbine. 
  • Representing a Gulf state-owned public water and electricity company in an ICC arbitration concerning the breach of a tender contract.

  • Represented a global apparel company in an ICC arbitration against the national soccer federation of a South American country.
  • Represented the Sultanate of Oman and defeating multi-million-dollar claims by a Saudi investor pursuant to the OIC Agreement concerning a construction project and a separate claim by a US investor pursuant to the US-Oman Free Trade Agreement concerning lease agreement and mining rights, resulting in a complete dismissal of Claimant’s claims. (Omar Bin Sulaiman Abdual Aziz Al Rajhi v. the Sultanate of Oman, PCA Case No. 2017-32).
  • Represented a major multinational technology company in an ICC arbitration over its claims for breach of representations and warranties in an acquisition agreement and indemnification of several patent litigations. The arbitration was discontinued following a favorable settlement for our client.
  • Represented an upstream and renewable energy sector client in an English-language US$100 million ICC arbitration arising out of a methanol plant project. The case was discontinued following a settlement agreement between the parties. 
  • n re Zantac (Ranitidine) Products Liability Litigation, MDL 2924 (SD. Fla.): Serving as co-national counsel for Sanofi in multi district litigation involving thousands of cancer claims and medical monitoring, third party payor and consumer fraud class actions.
Global Enforcement and Asset Recovery
  • Representing a Canadian mining company in multi-jurisdictional proceedings to enforce a $1.4 billion arbitration award against Venezuela.
  • Representing multiple European renewable energy companies in multi-jurisdictional proceedings to enforce “intra-EU” Energy Charter Treaty awards against Spain.
  • Representing the estate of a South American family office in enforcing a multi-billion dollar judgment against a US State Department sanctioned state.
Investigations
  • Conducted a comprehensive internal investigation of corporate supply chain protocols for a multinational pharmaceutical company related to its operations in central Asia.
  • Advised a US defense contractor on International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and other State Department controlled goods regulations.
