DLA Piper supports Coöperatieve Rabobank U.A. in financing Zonnepark Bellingwolde – Westerwolde

Global law firm DLA Piper has advised Coöperatieve Rabobank U.A. in securing financing for Zonnepark Bellingwolde - Westerwolde, a large solar project near the German border. Developed by Novar, the project boasts a capacity of 74 MWp and is set to make a substantial impact on the regional energy transition.

Situated in Bellingwolde, the solar park spans approximately 57.5 hectares and will feature 124,474 solar panels. The project prioritises collaboration with local communities and authorities, ensuring seamless landscape integration, biodiversity enhancement, and public accessibility. Notably, the project required adherence to a border treaty established in 1824, requiring approval from the German district of Landkreis Emsland which was successfully obtained.

Gerard Kneppers, partner and head of the finance practice at DLA Piper leading on the matter, comments: "This project is yet another example of a progressive approach to sustainability, community involvement, and innovation. It’s a landmark matter for the regional energy transition and highlights the potential of initiatives that propel us towards a greener, more sustainable future."
