DLA Piper advises Amethis on cross-border energy investment

DLA Piper has advised Amethis on its acquisition of a minority stake in Energy Transfo, a leading designer and manufacturer of solutions for the electricity and renewable energy sectors in Morocco.

Energy Transfo manufactures several products including transformers, electrical cabinets, compact urban substations, and other products that are at the heart of electricity distribution. The company has diversified over the last five years by creating a solar and electric mobility division. Amethis’ investment will bolster Energy Transfo’s existing position in Morocco and strengthen its push for growth in sub-Saharan Africa, which will include increasing production capacity to meet demand, and operational and commercial optimisation.

A team from DLA Piper’s Casablanca office worked on the transaction and was led by Christophe Bachelet, Country Managing Partner, DLA Piper Morocco. He was supported by supported by senior associate Kenza Belrhiti Alaoui and associate, Léa Attias Hazan (both Corporate).

Christophe Bachelet, Country Managing Partner, DLA Piper Morocco, commented: “At a time when cross-border business within Africa and growth in the investment in the renewables and overall energy sector across the continent are on the rise, it is encouraging to have the opportunity to utilise our sectoral and geographical expertise to provide Amethis with commercially viable legal direction on this front.”
