DLA Piper excels in New Zealand with 5 firm Excellence Awards and 2 deals recognised

DLA Piper in New Zealand is delighted to announce that the firm has been named as an Excellence Awardee in seven categories for the upcoming 2024 New Zealand Law Awards. These prestigious nominations underscore our commitment to legal excellence, innovation, and its dedication to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.

The firm has been recognised in the following categories:

  • Large Law Firm of the Year: This nomination highlights our expertise across various sectors and our ability to deliver innovative, client-centric solutions in New Zealand’s legal market, supported by a resource of global expertise.
  • Employer of Choice (>100 Lawyers): This nomination reflects our commitment to creating a dynamic and supportive work environment that values the well-being and inclusivity of our people.
  • Law Firm Leader of the Year (>100 Lawyers): Laura Scampion, Country Managing Partner – whose outstanding leadership, forward-thinking strategies, and dedication to driving positive change has made a real impact within DLA Piper and the wider legal community.
  • Young Private Practice Lawyer of the Year (35 or under): Wendy Smith – Wendy’s exceptional contributions to the legal profession and her work in renewable energy, insurance, and corporate governance have earned the well-deserved recognition in this category.
  • Diversity & Inclusion Initiative of the Year: Recognising our continued efforts to promote diversity and inclusion through initiatives that support underrepresented groups and foster a more equitable legal profession.
  • Debt Market Deal of the Year: We have been recognised for our role in advising on the NZ Green Investment Finance & SolarZero financing, a landmark deal valued at NZD170 million, which contributed significantly to New Zealand’s renewable energy sector.
  • Mid-Market Deal of the Year: Several teams across DLA Piper in New Zealand were involved in the acquisition of Totara Learning Solutions by Tenzing, a complex cross-border deal spanning multiple jurisdictions, earning this recognition.
