In his international practice, Robert Klyman represents companies, lenders, other creditors, acquirers, and boards of directors in all phases of restructurings and workouts. His practice includes advising companies and key stakeholders in complicated workouts, including traditional, prepackaged, and pre-negotiated bankruptcies, structuring cutting-edge distressed mergers and acquisitions, negotiating bankruptcy financings, and litigating complex bankruptcy and commercial matters related to financial distress.

Robert developed, and for 20 years co-taught, a case study for the Harvard Business School on prepackaged bankruptcies and bankruptcy valuation issues. He has also taught bankruptcy dealmaking and strategy classes at the University of Michigan Business School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management, and UCLA Law School. Robert is also a frequent panelist on topics relating to financial distress and bankruptcy. He was also a member of the ABA Subcommittee that drafted the ABA Model Bankruptcy Asset Purchase Agreement.

  • Represented a leading sports goods retailer with 425 leases and more than US$1 billion in debt as a debtor in its bankruptcy case.
  • Represented the owner of more than 70 newspapers and television stations as a debtor in its bankruptcy case and restructured with approximately US$1.1 billion in debt.
  • Represented a wireless communications company as the debtor in its bankruptcy case and restructured approximately US$2.6 billion in debt and more than 100 leases.
  • Represented a major Atlantic City hotel and casino company as the debtor in its bankruptcy case and restructured approximately US$1.5 billion in debt.
