DLA Piper (Canada) LLP welcomes Derek Kurrant to the firm’s Calgary office as counsel in the Tax Group. Derek has over 25 years of experience in the many areas of tax law ‎that affect public companies and private enterprises.‎

As a lawyer and a chartered accountant, Derek’s practice focuses on providing tax advice on a broad range of corporate and commercial transactions for both public and private companies, ‎including corporate reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, structuring of public debt and equity ‎offerings, the purchase and sale of businesses, and the use of partnerships, joint ventures and trusts.‎ He regularly provides tax ‎advice on international and cross-border planning matters, including advising Canadian businesses looking ‎to expand to foreign jurisdictions and advising multinational enterprises seeking to establish, acquire or ‎dispose of businesses in Canada‎.

Derek has significant experience providing tax structuring and transactional advice on various energy-based projects including in the oil and gas and ‎renewable energy sectors.

Prior to joining DLA Piper, Derek was a partner and subsequently counsel at a large global firm.
