François Tremblay is an experienced commercial and privacy attorney and joint lead of the firm’s Québec privacy and data protection team. He has a diversified business law practice covering matters of corporate and commercial law, international trade, and privacy and data protection.
François regularly acts for Canadian and international clients on mergers, acquisitions, and financing matters. He also supports clients in the negotiation and drafting of commercial agreements. In the context of commercial transactions, he is often called upon to provide advice on matters relating to international trade, regulatory compliance, and privacy.
Privacy and data protection is a key part of Francois’ practice. He has developed a focused expertise in this field and regularly supports Canadian, American, and international clients in navigating their obligations under Québec’s privacy regime, generally considered to be the most sophisticated and stringent of its kind in Canada. Francois is experienced in all aspects of privacy legislation and is able to support clients with policy development, privacy compliance audits, international data transfers, impact assessments, and breach responses.
François also has a keen interest in matters of international trade, economic sanctions and export controls law. He is able to support clients with comprehensive, practical advice, allowing them to fully understand their obligations under these complex regulatory regimes and devise effective, practical risk mitigation strategies.
François has developed a specific expertise in matters of business integrity, compliance, and corporate governance. He assists clients in designing and implementing integrity compliance programs as well as in conducting internal investigations on corporate misconduct. Francois has acted in internal investigations in the context of important mandates which led him to travel to Africa, the Middle East, and Japan.
In addition to French and English, François is fluent in Japanese, which has allowed him to act on several internal investigation mandates involving Japanese multi-nationals.
