The Energy Bill, first introduced to Parliament on 6 July 2022, received Royal Assent on 26 October 2023 becoming the Energy Act 2023. It creates a comprehensive new legislative regime for energy production, energy security and the regulation of the UK energy sector. The Act aims to deliver "a cleaner, more affordable and more secure energy system for the long term", having been described by the UK government as "the most significant piece of energy legislation in a generation".
