Brent MacLean practices primarily in the area of commercial litigation with emphasis on securities-related and complex real estate disputes. Brent has been involved in contract disputes respecting real estate, securities, mining, construction, partnership, finance, banking, shareholder, franchise, intellectual property and employment matters.
Brent has acted for local, national and international brokerage houses, publicly listed companies, and investors in a variety of litigation (including British Columbia and United States class action proceedings) and regulatory matters including investigations and hearings before the Ontario Securities Commission, the British Columbia Securities Commission, the Investment Industry Regulator Organization of Canada and the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.
In addition to regularly appearing before courts and securities regulators in British Columbia, Brent has managed matters and instructed counsel in respect of litigation and securities enforcement proceedings in Ontario, Alberta, the United Kingdom, New York, Texas, Florida, Utah, Nevada and California.
Brent has been a member of the V.S.E. committee on the finality of share transfers and the British Columbia Securities Commission advisory committee with respect to enforcement and litigation matters.
Brent has negotiated with government agencies with respect to land use, human rights and securities matters.
Brent has written articles and lectured for the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia on a number of practice and substantive matters, including complex litigation accounting and broker/client disputes.
