Mauro Carretta is an insurance lawyer with over 20 years' experience advising players in the insurance and reinsurance arena, on corporate, regulatory and litigation issues.
Mauro has also worked in-house in London and Milan for large insurance companies for some time and has a deep understanding both of the market from clients' perspective and of clients' needs.
He is particularly experienced in advising on live and run off portfolio transfers, bancassurance agreements, set up and start up of new players, compliance issues and complex disputes.
He holds a PhD, was a collaborator of the University of Udine and is a regular contributor to law journals and text books on (re-) insurance matters.

EXPERIENCE
Assisted a large insurer in managing a multi-billion dollar claim related to Covid-19 business interruption losses under global property insurance scheme and its relationship with the co-insurers’ and the reinsurers’ panel.
Assisted an insurance company in putting in place a legacy solution for its med-mal portfolio (worth in excess of EUR100m). This matter involved: (i) setting up a bid process; (ii) negotiating and signing a reinsurance contract covering all claims payments arising from the legacy business, with the related security package; (iii) negotiating and signing a legal portfolio transfer.
Won a large reinsurance dispute regarding the interpretation of a quota share treaty and certain breaches of good faith and prudent underwriting principles.
