About

Rachel Tookey is a litigation lawyer, with over 14 years’ experience advising on a broad range of complex financial and commercial disputes.

Rachel now specialises as Knowledge Development Lawyer for the Litigation and Regulatory group, with a particular focus on supporting the Financial Services disputes team. Rachel supports the teams by providing both technical and practical input on legal queries, and by providing training and key updates for both lawyers and clients.

Rachel qualified as a solicitor in 2008, and joined DLA Piper in 2010, becoming Legal Director in 2021. Rachel's move to the Knowledge team has enabled her to use her experience to provide updates and technical assistance to her colleagues, which in turn enables them to provide exceptional client service. Rachel prepares internal and client updates on key developments and assists with preparing and delivering the group’s training. Rachel continues to be involved in business development, by preparing publications and identifying current trends in dispute resolution and in particular in the financial services sector.

EXPERIENCE

  • Leading a team of lawyers acting for Highways England in relation to a multi-million PFI contract dispute for maintenance of the M25 motorway.
  • Multi-million compensation claim for a tech company, advising on the set up of a portal to make direct payments. Advising on a high profile and high value dispute involving multiple claimants for a financial institution regarding the entitlement to charge breakage costs on early repayment of the loan.
  • Acting for a telecoms provider in a £2m guarantee claim in relation to complex contract arrangements which settled favourably at mediation.
  • Acted for a number of banking clients in complex financial product mis-selling claims.
  • Contract dispute for a London transport provider in relation to the client’s ability to apply service credit reductions to the contract price.
  • Advising on a complex misrepresentation claim emanating from defective recycling machinery.
  • Cross border breach of contract dispute in relation to a defective gearwheel set, negotiating a compliant re-supply.
  • Acting for a banking client in relation to a professional negligence claim against its appointed valuer for overvaluing a high profile night club in Knightsbridge.
  • Acting for UK Asset Resolution in a portfolio mortgage fraud claim against its former solicitors.
  • Acting on a water authority, in a pensions dispute with the Pensions Regulator.
