DLA Piper represents U. S. Steel Košice in high profile case
DLA Piper has successfully represented U. S. Steel Košice, the largest integrated steel producer in Central Europe, in a high profile case decided by the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic. The Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic reversed the earlier verdict delivered by the Supreme Court of the Slovak republic and declared that the provision of Art. 134 of the Slovak Commercial Code (regulating the business management) shall not apply to the decision on organizational changes and hence shall not have impact on the validity of the termination notice from the employment relationship.
These court rulings will have an significant impact on legal doctrine and case law of the Slovak Republic as they will bring legal certainty for huge corporations - employers with complex management structures and thousands of employees.
U. S. Steel Košice, the largest steelmaking company in Slovakia with an annual raw steel production capability of 4.5 million metric tons and more than 50 years of tradition, belongs to the parent organization United States Steel Corporation, a world-class steel producer. The company employs around 11.000 people and the product mix comprises high value-added products suitable for applications in the automotive, packaging, electrotechnical, consumer goods and building industries.
The Slovak team of DLA Piper was led by partner Michaela Stessl and also included associate Andrej Liska and junior associate Martina Gondová (all Corporate, Bratislava).
