About

Ginevra Righini is a Partner in the Intellectual Property & Technology team and is based in the Milan office.

She is a bilingual English/Italian lawyer with nearly 15 years’ experience in the field of intellectual property.

Her areas of expertise include the protection and enforcement of geographical indications and the global and strategic management of large trademark and design portfolios. She acts primarily for clients in the food & beverage, retail and renewable energy sectors.

Ginevra has a proven track record in assisting consortia in the protection of geographical indications worldwide. She has extensive experience in the registration of traditional and non-traditional trademarks, designs and domain names. She also assists clients with re-branding strategies and in all administrative proceedings before trade mark offices, including before the General Court of the European Union. 

Ginevra is a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), the Association Internationale des Juristes du Droit de la Vigne et du Vin (AIDV) and the Organisation for an International Geographical Indications Network (oriGIn).

EXPERIENCE

  • Successfully defending Protected Designations of Origin (“PDOs”) in countless cases of registration and use of evocative trade marks and in cases of the exploitation of PDOs.
  • Winning trade mark disputes both in opposition and appeal proceedings before EUIPO and the Italian Trade Mark Office.
  • Through third party observations, obtaining the refusal of trade mark applications on the grounds of descriptiveness and lack of distinctiveness.
